Elliot Page Says He Was 'Terrified' to Play Sinon in Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey'

Elliot Page discussed his initial fears about taking on the role of Sinon in Christopher Nolan's adaptation of "The Odyssey" during an appearance on "The Daily Show" on Wednesday, according to TheWrap. The actor previously worked with Nolan on the 2010 sci-fi blockbuster "Inception."

He shared that he and the director engaged in deep conversations about the importance of the character before filming began. "The character I play in this is actually not originally in ‘The Odyssey,’" Page said. "So for me, the focus was really on being able to capture him in these few scenes and hopefully make Chris happy."

What made Elliot Page nervous about the role?

Page explained that the character Sinon serves as the "consciousness of facing Odysseus and the impacts of war, the brutality of war and violence." This significant thematic weight contributed to his nerves. "And so I think I was terrified and just wanting to make sure I did an OK job, you know, and pulled it off in the movie," he admitted. "But it was the good kind of nerves."

What was the filming experience like?

The actor worked on the project early and later in the shoot, which filmed in six different countries with a massive cast and crew. "I couldn't even understand how they were all still standing, you know," Page recalled. He noted that challenging weather and temperatures were offset by his experience working in Canada as a child.

The interview did not address online backlash to his casting. Page's performance is part of a film that has emerged as a box office success, bringing in $264 million globally in its opening weekend.
