Why is this decision so controversial?

The change creates major logistical headaches. It forces numerous high-profile nominees to attend the first weekend of ceremonies over Labor Day weekend. This conflicts with major film festivals and requires studios to plan for two consecutive weekends of events.

More critically, it risks historic wins happening off-air. The Creative Arts ceremonies currently have no red carpet and are typically edited into a tape-delayed special.

Academy chair Cris Abrego defended the move, stating the goal was to create a better viewing experience for the main telecast.
