Sharon Stone on Quitting Weed and Stopping Stroke Medication: ‘It Was Like Going Off of Heroin’

Sharon Stone has revealed she quit smoking weed and stopped taking a stroke medication against doctors' orders, describing the withdrawal as similar to going off heroin. The actress shared the details in an interview with Variety.

Stone reportedly stopped one of her medications last September. "I got off one of my medications that I was on for my stroke last September, and they said I couldn’t go off of it," she said. "They said, ‘You can’t go off of it. You can never go off of it.’ I’m like, ‘I’m going off it,’ and it was like going off of fucking heroin. I was sick as a frigging dog for four and a half months."

Why Did She Quit Weed?

Her decision to quit cannabis followed. She cited concerns about modern additives. "Once I got off that, I decided I’m going to quit smoking pot. And because I think they put so much stuff in it now — they really do — when I stopped smoking pot, I also got sick," Stone said. She added that her neurologist warned her about the risks, telling her, "Sharon, I’ve had people dying in the emergency room from marijuana."

How Are Her Sons Involved?

The interview also covered her personal life. Her eldest son, Roan, runs her social media through his company, Social Network Studios. Stone said Roan overhauled her Instagram feed, which led to a significant increase in engagement but also complaints from followers she unfollowed. "People wrote me nasty letters. Why am I not following them anymore?" she recounted.

Stone also discussed her painting career, which took off during the COVID-19 lockdown. Her sons eventually persuaded her to move her art studio out of her bedroom and into a guest house. "I’m selling my work in galleries all around the world now," she said.

Her recent projects include appearances in "Euphoria" and "Nobody 2," according to her verified filmography. She also walked a runway in Paris for the first time in 33 years last June.
