Harlow Jane on Facing Her Family's Acting Legacy: 'I Didn't Want to Be the One That Sucks'
Patricia Arquette's daughter opens up about the fears that almost kept her from the family business—and how her mom is helping her find her footing.

What's it like to grow up in a family of acting legends? For Harlow Jane, the pressure was almost enough to keep her from ever trying.
The 23-year-old daughter of Oscar winner Patricia Arquette and actor Thomas Jane revealed her initial fears about stepping into the spotlight in an exclusive interview with E! News. She spoke at the July 8 premiere of her new film, The Five Star Weekend, which debuts on Peacock July 9.
"The truth of it was, I was just too scared to try it, and I was too scared of failing," Harlow told E! News’ Erin Lim Rhodes. "I was too scared of being bad at it."
With a mother known for iconic roles in Medium and Severance, an aunt (Rosanna Arquette), an uncle (David Arquette), and her father all with illustrious careers, the weight of expectation was heavy.
Her turning point came in an unexpected place: a high school drama class. "I took a high school drama class," Harlow explained, "and that sort of ignited a fire in me." That spark led to her sharing the screen with her mother in High Desert and her father in Dig.
Now, as she stars alongside Jennifer Garner, Regina Hall, Chloë Sevigny, and D'Arcy Carden in the TV adaptation of Elin Hilderbrand's novel, she's leaning on her mom for guidance. "She is doing her best to instill in me a sense of inner confidence that I don't think I naturally have," Harlow admitted. "She has been really helping me to find that."
She praised Patricia's outlook, saying, "She's so grateful. She moves through every day with so much [gratitude] for where she is and who she is and who she's become through all the work that she's done in her life."
Harlow's journey from fear to embracing her heritage is a classic Hollywood story with a modern, self-aware twist. She's not just following in famous footsteps; she's finding her own path with a little help from the Oscar-winner at home.
