Casey Affleck's Gothic Mystery 'Company' Casts Nick Nolte, Ben Mendelsohn, Scoot McNairy

Casey Affleck has directed a new gothic mystery film titled 'Company,' according to Variety. The project marks his third feature as director and his first since 2019's 'Light of My Life.'

The film stars Nick Nolte, Adelaide Clemens, Ben Mendelsohn, and Scoot McNairy. Emily Alyn Lind and Caylee Cowan also star in the ensemble. Affleck, who won a Best Actor Oscar for 'Manchester by the Sea,' wrote and directed the project.

Set on a winter night in 1975, 'Company' follows a mysterious woman named Evelyn who arrives uninvited at a holiday gathering. She tells the story of Tom, an aging hermit who rescued a stranded actress during a Colorado blizzard more than two decades earlier. To pass the night, the actress then recounts an older tale of a farming couple who take in a troubled young drifter as a series of grisly murders spreads fear. The synopsis describes the film as a meditation on grief, vengeance, forgiveness, and compassion.

What is the production status?

Filming for 'Company' wrapped earlier this year in Whistler, Canada. The film is a co-production between Image Nation Studios, Rabbits Black, Spooky Pictures, Artists Equity, Arcana Studio, and Artemis Pictures. International sales will be handled by AGC and Spooky Pictures, with Gersh, Cinetic and Range Select handling North American rights.

Producers include Steven Schneider and Roy Lee for Spooky Pictures, alongside Cowan, Dan Lawler, Affleck, and others. Ron Hansen co-wrote the script with Affleck.

In a statement provided to Variety, Image Nation Studios' CEO Ben Ross called Affleck a "visionary filmmaker" who has brought "remarkable atmospheric style, emotional realism and psychological depth" to the project. Artists Equity's president of film & TV Amy Baer said, "'Company' is a striking showcase of Casey's vision as both a writer and director. It's a haunting, emotionally resonant story with a strong cast behind it."
