Peter Jackson Set to Direct Tintin Sequel, His First Film in 12 Years

Peter Jackson will likely direct the long-awaited sequel to The Adventures of Tintin, marking his first directorial project in 12 years. The news comes from a recent conversation the filmmaker had with Gold Derby.

Jackson confirmed that he and his longtime collaborator Fran Walsh have finished writing the script for the next installment. The plan for him to direct was part of an agreement made with Steven Spielberg back in 2011, when Spielberg directed the first film and Jackson produced.

In his interview, Jackson provided a clear update on the project's status. "Fran and I have been writing a script for the next Tintin film," he said. "The idea was that then I was supposed to go straight onto a second one, and we’d swap the roles, so I’d direct the second one and he’d produce it. It’s just taken 15 years to get there, unfortunately, a bit late."

He added, "So we just wrapped up.

According to the report from The Mary Sue, there is no release date yet for the sequel. The film requires a full motion-capture and animation process, which is known to take years to complete. This means fans should still expect a significant wait before the movie reaches theaters.

Jackson is also currently producing The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, which stars and is directed by Andy Serkis. This commitment will occupy him in the immediate future, further indicating that the Tintin sequel remains in the earlier stages of active development.
