Snoop Dogg Biopic 'Snoop' Lands Summer 2027 Release Date at Universal

The film, titled "Snoop," will chronicle the life of Calvin Broadus Jr. on his path to becoming the hip-hop icon.

Jonathan Daviss, best known for his role on the Netflix series Outer Banks, is set to star. Craig Brewer, the director behind Hustle & Flow and Song Sung Blue, will direct from a script he revised from an initial draft by Joe Robert Cole.

Who is producing the film?

Snoop Dogg will produce the project alongside Brian Grazer and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker. This marks the first project under Death Row Pictures' overall deal with NBCUniversal Entertainment & Studios. The rapper has been actively involved, joining Daviss on stage at CinemaCon earlier this year to tease the film's progress.

At the CinemaCon event, Snoop Dogg connected the film to Universal's previous hip-hop success. "After my brothers got to tell their story with Straight Outta Compton, now it’s my turn," he told the crowd. He also offered a clear content warning for fans: "My movie is going to be rated R, I guarantee that. So get your parents’ permission."

The studio's previous foray into rap biopics, 2015's Straight Outta Compton, was a major commercial and critical success, earning an Oscar nomination.
