TIFF Unveils Special Presentations Lineup for 2026 Festival

The Toronto International Film Festival has announced several films for its 2026 Special Presentations program, including world premieres for movies starring Margaret Qualley, Naomi Watts, and Mahershala Ali. The festival will run from September 10 to 20, according to reports from The Hollywood Reporter and IndieWire.

Organizers revealed the first wave of titles for the prestigious section on Thursday. The lineup features a mix of directorial debuts, sophomore efforts, and anticipated genre films from established filmmakers.

What films are premiering at TIFF?

Among the world premieres is Rachel Morrison's "Love of Your Life," starring Margaret Qualley as a suddenly single young woman on a journey to find her way forward. The Amazon MGM Studios film is produced by Ryan Gosling and Jessie Henderson and also stars Gabriel Basso and Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Ben Shirinian's feature debut, "The Housewife," will also have its world premiere. The psychological drama, based on a true story from 1964, stars Naomi Watts as the charming wife of a potential Nazi officer living secretly in Queens. Tye Sheridan plays the journalist whose investigation goes off track after befriending her.

Bassam Tariq's hitman thriller "Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother" will screen as well. The film stars Mahershala Ali as a devoutly religious hitman protecting his family in Houston, Texas, and features a cast including John Cho and Giancarlo Esposito. It is set for a theatrical release in fall 2026.

Who else is in the lineup?

The Special Presentations program also includes the international premiere of "Alpha Gang," a sci-fi comedy from directors David and Nathan Zellner. Cate Blanchett stars as the leader of an extraterrestrial strike force disguised as a 1950s biker gang, with Chris Pine and Dave Bautista also in the cast.

Argentine filmmaker Benjamín Naishtat will present the world premiere of "Glaxo," an adaptation of Hernán Ronsino's novel about four friends whose lives are shattered by the arrival of a policeman and his wife in their small town.

In an official statement, TIFF's chief programming officer Anita Lee said, "Each year, we strive to curate a selection of films that feels most relevant to the moment with the power to spark a rich dialogue with our public audience, and these Special Presentations titles are true reflections of that."

When is TIFF 2026?

The 51st edition of the Toronto International Film Festival is scheduled for September 10-20, 2026. The festival previously announced that Siân Heder's "Being Heumann" will serve as the opening night film. Organizers stated that more titles for the Special Presentations program and other sections will be announced starting next week.
