Aziz Ansari's 'Good Fortune' Soundtrack Adds Two Australian Classics

Aziz Ansari's upcoming comedy fantasy film Good Fortune will feature two classic Australian songs on its soundtrack, according to a report from Noise11.com. The film will use The Go-Betweens’ “Streets of Your Town” and Real Life’s “Send Me An Angel” to help shape its nostalgic atmosphere.

These Australian tracks join a wider soundtrack that includes music from artists like Beck, Salt-N-Pepa, Buzzcocks, Deee-Lite, and Frankie Knuckles. While neither Australian recording will be on the official soundtrack album, both songs will be heard within the film itself.

What songs are featured?

The Go-Betweens’ “Streets of Your Town,” released in 1988, became one of the band's defining recordings. It was written by Grant McLennan for the album 16 Lovers Lane and later appeared in the Australian film The Black Balloon.

Real Life’s “Send Me An Angel,” originally released in 1983, has a longer history with Hollywood soundtracks. The synth-pop track previously appeared in films like Rad, Teen Wolf Too, and The Wizard.

What is Good Fortune about?

Ansari wrote, directed, and stars in the film, which also features Keanu Reeves, Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, and Sandra Oh. Reeves plays Gabriel, a low-ranking guardian angel whose plan to prove money can't buy happiness goes wrong after he swaps the lives of a struggling gig worker and a wealthy tech investor. The film uses music from multiple decades to reinforce its changing moods, with the Australian songs selected to complement the nostalgic tone.

Good Fortune marks Ansari's feature directorial debut after his earlier project Being Mortal was suspended in 2022. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival before its theatrical release.
