Madonna Drops a Late-Night Surprise with 'Confessions II: Afterhours'

The icon released the Afterhours edition of her new album Confessions II on Friday, July 10, according to Just Jared. This surprise drop comes just one week after the album's initial release, and it's packed with fresh beats.

The new edition includes all the previously released remixes from the era by artists like Peggy Gou, Stuart Price, and Honey Dijon. The real draw, however, are two brand-new takes on the track "Love Sensation." One remix comes from the Detroit-based father-daughter duo Floorplan, consisting of Robert Hood and Lyric Hood. The other, dubbed the "infinite passion" remix, is by England-based Austrian DJ and producer salute.

This move seems perfectly timed. Earlier in the week, Hits Daily Double reported that Madonna's album "has the edge" for the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200, projecting over 100,000 units sold in its first week. If the projections hold, she would beat out Olivia Rodrigo and Ella Langley for the top position.

Adding to the momentum, Billboard has speculated that Confessions II could snag Madonna a Best Dance/Electronic Album Grammy next year. That would be a full-circle moment, as the album's predecessor, Confessions on a Dance Floor, won the same award. Her record label is reportedly planning a submission for the category.

The album release is part of a broader campaign. Madonna recently shared behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the "Danceteria" segment of her Confessions II – The Film, which features a star-studded cast including Odessa A’zion, Gwendoline Christie, Honey Dijon, Kate Moss, Benedict Cumberbatch, Arca, Shygirl, and Richard E. Grant.

While the album's chart success is still projected, the release of the Afterhours edition is a confirmed move to keep fans engaged and the dance floor moving.
