Nick and Vanessa Lachey Boot a Couple From 'The Ultimatum' After a Secret Note Is Intercepted
The hosts prove that on their show, covert communication is the one ultimatum they won't tolerate, leading to an unprecedented dismissal.

Reality TV thrives on drama, but there’s one rule you don’t break on Nick and Vanessa Lachey’s watch: keep it on camera.
That rule was put to the ultimate test in the new season of The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On, leading to a shocking first for the Netflix series. Hosts Nick and Vanessa Lachey removed participants Alex Johnsen and Jebin John from the experiment after Jebin attempted to secretly pass Alex a note, E! News reports.
The incident unfolded during episode two of season four, which dropped on Netflix on July 15, 2026. Jebin, 23, slipped Alex the note out of jealousy over her connection with fellow participant Killian Grondin, per E! News. "I honestly hope to God you guys weren't touching on camera," he wrote. "There is no way we are getting married."
The Hosts Lay Down the Law
Confronting the couple in episode three, Nick Lachey made the show's core principle clear. "Communication is paramount in this entire experience, I think you're all aware of that," he told the remaining couples. "But that communication, frankly, has to happen on camera. That's part of this experience."
Vanessa Lachey suggested Jebin’s actions proved he wasn’t ready for the experiment’s format. "Jebin, I think I can speak for the room about the clarity you've given us on you not being ready to be involved in this experiment," she said, "and I think that it's going to negatively impact the rest of the group, if I'm being honest."
The result was an unprecedented dismissal. "Unfortunately, we're going to ask you to leave the experience at this point," Nick stated. "You can go ahead and go." Because the show requires couples to participate, Alex, also 23, was sent home as well.
A Six-Year Romance Cut Short
The ejection ended Alex and Jebin’s run on the show just as their backstory was being revealed. The couple met while working at a grocery store before their relationship turned romantic six years ago.
Their removal is a first in the franchise's history — no couple had ever been ejected from the experiment before. Five couples remain in the season, which is streaming now on Netflix.
