Rei Ami and Ken Jeong Take a Bite Out of Discovery's 'Shark Week'

Musician Rei Ami and actor Ken Jeong will appear as Discovery's annual Shark Week kicks off this Sunday, according to a report from AP News. The pair are featured in the premiere of the new show "K-Pop Shark Heroes."

Rei Ami, whose voice was featured in the film "KPop Demon Hunters," participated in several dives with sharks for the program. She described the experience as awe-inspiring. "I thought I’d be a bit more petrified, but I was enamored. I was in awe. It was witnessing nature," she told AP News.

Ken Jeong, meanwhile, opted to stay out of the water for his segment. "I’m more of the Christopher Nolan of the shark ‘Odyssey’ — just overseeing it," Jeong joked. "Just overlooking everything. High and dry. That’s when I do my best work."

Who else is appearing on Shark Week?

High diver Molly Carlson is another featured guest, confronting a lifelong fear by leaping 50 feet from a helicopter into a Plexiglas cage in the ocean surrounded by reef sharks. "There was zero chances of me ever swimming with sharks. This was just not on my radar," Carlson said. She hopes her participation can inspire others to face their fears.

What is the schedule for Shark Week?

The event features twenty new hourlong shows beginning Sunday. Other highlights include a search for a rumored 15-foot mako shark off Southern California.

Rei Ami emphasized the educational core of the event. "While ‘Shark Week’ is very entertaining and thrilling, it is at the core very educational," she said. "And I think there’s still so much misinformation regarding sharks and how they behave."
