Tyler Perry's Netflix Show 'Beauty in Black' Gets Surprise Season 4 Renewal

Netflix has renewed Tyler Perry's drama series Beauty in Black for a fourth season, according to The Independent, reversing its earlier decision to end the show after its third season. The streamer announced the surprise renewal on social media ahead of the show's third-season premiere.

"That Bellarie reign just won’t let up! SEASON 4 of Beauty In Black is officially in the works!!" Netflix said in a post on Wednesday. The announcement included a video of cast members and Perry sharing the news. "We’ve been keeping this secret as long as we could," co-star Crystle Stewart said. Perry added, "Brand new episodes of Beauty in Black is coming."

The reversal comes nearly a year after the release of the show's two-part second season, which the outlet reports exceeded expectations. The season spent six weeks on Netflix’s Global Top 10 list and reached the number one spot in 17 countries. This strong global performance appears to have been a key factor in the streamer's U-turn.

Created, written, directed, and executive produced by Tyler Perry, the series follows two women from very different socioeconomic backgrounds whose lives become connected. It stars Taylor Polidore Williams, Crystle Stewart, Amber Reign Smith, Xavier Smalls, and Julian Horton. The forthcoming third season will see Kimmie (Williams) with a seat at the powerful Bellarie family table, but holding onto her newfound power "won’t be easy," according to Netflix's Tudum site.

In a statement to Tudum, Perry celebrated the renewal, saying, "Beauty in Black is back for Season 4, and the Bellarie family’s story is far from finished.
